New Poem Today!

Daily Flight
Migrating birds pass my view
a daily flight, tight in formation
Tip-feathers angle, bank a sharp turn
New heading where waters flow south.

Flocks of Canada Geese, Muted Swans,
and assorted companions fly in Delta-V,
a wedged pattern to swoop over creek
Skimming waters like attacking jet fighters.

Flight leader honks orders: sharpen up
pressing angle, slicing turn, transferring
south where creek blends with river.
Internal compass set for warmer quarters.

Fast on wing, air rushes past
move and motion precise
tree tops rustle, release
Autumn’s last fading leaves.

Guided by natural features,
Ancient landmarks unchanged
Celestial reckoning makes position true
By unfailing sun, moon and stars.

A timeless sojourn,
an affirming seasonal ritual.
To wait-out winter’s cold
until spring’s sun beckons north.
